A pregnant Boran heifer, Caroline (HOT 20-25), from Yolandie Botha’s Iminathi Rance in the Waterberg district, was sold to the highest bidder at R650 000 at the Sale of the Bonts auction in Pretoria.
The buyers were Simeon and Jarred Hurwitz from Davel.
The most expensive bull was bred by Gerrit Potgieter from Ooskus Borans, Komga and sold for R550 000 to Paul de Wet from Kestell.
Gerrit also sold the most expensive cow with a calf for R550 000 to Ridwaan Moola from Heilbron.
Furthermore, it was the first Boran auction at which sexed embryos were for sale. The embryos were sold at an average of R7 000.
Gerrit bought the most expensive embryo from Stompie Olivier’s Hotspot Cattle Stud, Ventersdorp, for R13 000
Altogether 18 breeders made great breeding material available and the entire supply of spotted Borans on offer was sold at the auction at the Fire & Wine arena in Pretoria.
Bulls made an average of R330 000, pregnant cows an average of R130 000, pregnant heifers an average of R190 714, and semen straws an average of R8 250.
