Loads of implements and equipment for the smaller farmer were exhibited at the annual Nampo Harvest Day at Bothaville. The 55th edition of this famous agricultural event was attended by 81 945 visitors. About 800 exhibitions were on show. Prices of products include VAT.
An implement from Stihl that is ideal for small-scale vegetable farmers. This MH710 model shown by Wian Botma from Bloemfontein prepares an excellent seedbed for veggies. It can work up to 36cm deep. It has a four-stroke engine of 252cc that put out 5,4kW and has two gears forward as well as a reverse gear.

Kubota’s compact tractor was developed for both commercial and small-scale farmers. This B1-181 model (on the right) boasts, like all the company’s tractors, 4×4 capability, although it can turn as sharply as a 2×2 tractor. It has an engine of 13,4kW and sells for R215 000. On the left is the B1-181’s old brother, the B6000 model, that was manufactured in 1973 and was fully restored recently.

RyAgri from Meyerton exhibited this combination of haymaking equipment, selling for just R113 850. It consists of a four-wheel rake, mini round baler and mower. The RK-4S-model rake works 2,5m wide, the R70-model baler makes bales weighing 440kg and the DM-165 drum mower cuts 650mm wide.

FRD (Farming Real Different) from Kempton Park sells small implements, not only for chicken farmers, but for all small-scale producers. This FRD cultivator creates a very fine seed bed, especially for veggie farmers. FRD also sells equipment for commercial farmers.

Nucor from Johannesburg exhibited various implements for the smaller farmer – from log chippers to hammer mills. The electric implement on the picture separates the kernels from a maize cob and costs R25 300 (VAT included). It is also available with a petrol engine, at R31 050 (depending on the exchange rate). The cobs are fed into the implement by hand. Its capacity is about 500kg of cobs per hour.
