Jan Esau, who started working for BKB as a shearing service officer and driver, achieved the highest score in theory in the company’s recent Merino judging course.
Jan, who is described as “quiet and friendly” by the manager of Merino SA, Willie van Heerden, earned the title of dux in theory.
In a Facebook post, BKB said Jan’s hard work, dedication and willingness to learn had set him apart. “Jan exemplifies the values and image that BKB represents. He is a shining example of what we strive for – to be hardworking, committed, and always eager to learn and improve.”
Jan’s success opens new opportunities for him to support Thinus Van Schalkwyk in providing technical services to farmers in the Calvinia area.
“The course was also an opportunity for BKB to play a vital role in the industry’s development. Our team members, including Corné Nel, Piet Venter, Giepie Calldo and other key players, collaborated with Merino SA to offer this essential course to the industry and its people,” says BKB.
“We gladly sacrifice our own work commitments each year to ensure that course participants are well-equipped to make a significant impact in the wool and sheep industry.
“We believe that investing in the growth and knowledge of those in the industry benefits us all. As the course graduates go out into the world, they carry the skills and expertise to make a real difference, whether on farms or in sheep pens of fellow farmers and clients.”
