Farmers lose money if their mohair clip isn’t properly classed, and this is why the farmers must be present during shearing season.
The mohair industry has a huge challenge with a shortage of properly skilled mohair sorters.
The Mohair Empowerment Trust is receiving more and more training requests from brokers and individual farmers for simple things like “out sorts”, such as stains, lox, and seeds. They have started addressing this challenge and the mohair classing standards/guidelines through workshops.
Their recent workshop was held at Norman Emslie’s farm Commandofontein in the Adelaide area. A total of 15 farm workers attended the workshop.
You can let the Mohair Empowerment Trust know about your sorting challenges, so that they can address them via training workshops.
