Through its new sustainability recognition platform, Beyond Awards, South African Breweries will celebrate businesses that prioritise sustainable agriculture, water stewardship and climate change.
Zoleka Lisa, vice-president of corporate affairs at SAB, says the awards aim to offer clear insight into African sustainability initiatives, demonstrate the company’s commitment to addressing the issues that matter most, and foster meaningful change across Africa.
In addition, the awards ceremony aims to anchor sustainability in South Africa and to provide a platform for sharing global best practices.
“As African countries become increasingly passionate about the sustainability agenda, SAB believes this awards ceremony is crucial as it gives us a chance to showcase leaders in the field,” says Lisa.
She says SAB believes that adopting sustainable principles is an essential strategic imperative and urges all organisations to become increasingly ethical and environmentally conscious. Taking this approach creates a more sustainable and responsible business ecosystem, which SAB is proud to lead.
“Sustainability is crucial to our growth and to ensuring a sustainable, resilient future for our business. Thus, we are proud to launch our very first Beyond Awards to recognise the champions among us who put sustainability first,” says Lisa.
“Organisations will be able to showcase their environmental and social advocacy programmes through this platform. A key goal is achieving buy-in from the public and private sectors to drive sustainability within their organisations. It is a win for them and for our people and the planet.”

Awards will be made in four categories: sustainable development goals champion: best sustainability report; best sustainability project; and African trailblazer, which will recognise remarkable individuals who contribute towards advancing sustainability in Africa.
All categories are free to enter and the deadline for submissions is September 6. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on October 3.
Wendy Poulton, co-founder of the ESG Africa conference, says her company is honoured to be working with SAB on the awards.
“Over the past year, we have worked hard to build an ecosystem of sustainability. The awards are a natural extension of our efforts to raise awareness and educate people about the importance of driving a sustainable future,” Wendy says.
