A farmer equipped with the right tools for the job is one step closer to success, and finding the right supply partner is crucial.
In this week’s episode of African Farming (Honey, channel 173, Tuesdays at 17:00) AFGRI Retail’s Thomas Johnson speaks about the convenience of their retail stores and especially its online platform.
The AFGRI retail offering encompasses quite a lot.
“We serve a vast geographical area and are based in four provinces across South Africa, namely KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng. We have a wide variety of product lines on offer to our customers – from DIY, and paint, to chemicals.”
There are 33 AFGRI Retail branches countrywide and it is the place to go to buy seed, fertilizers, and a lot more other products. Customers can also purchase fuel at any of AFGRI’s 28 fueling stations.
Best prices
In such a price sensitive and competitive market, it is important for AFGRI to ensure it offers farmers the best value for money on a wide range of products.
“We are aware of the financial strains that people out there are facing. Farmers are not immune to that. So, what we do on a regular basis is to review our prices. We are able to do so because we have great partnerships with our suppliers. For as long as it is possible for us to cut prices we will continue to do so on a regular basis.”
Online store
Many farmers are located in far-flung areas with limited access to retail stores. However, AFGRI’s online platform provides the perfect solution to this challenge.
“AFGRI Retail’s online store is one of the highlights of the year for me. It launched on 31 May 2023, an event that coincided with AFGRI’s centenary celebrations. We chose 11 000 of our product lines to offer online to our customers. So, this is actually a branch away from a branch. You can shop on your phone, laptop, or PC. For now, we are running this online store from Bronkhorstspruit, but in future we want to have a click-and-collect option available as well.”
Any order that costs R750 or more will be delivered free of charge. Anything that costs less than that amount will have a standard delivery fee of R140. The platform is also really secure.
“Our customers with eAccounts can pay using that option. Payments can also be made with a credit card, EFT or any other payment method available in South Africa. It’s very easy. The service is very quick. We deliver between two and seven days,” says Thomas.
