The Karan Beef Academy has launched an educational video series that provides essential training for cattle farmers.
The 10-part series aims to give aspiring and existing cattle farmers the knowledge and skills to become more profitable and successful in the ever-growing beef cattle market, says Matthew Karan, director of Karan Beef.
“The Karan Beef Academy does not merely disseminate knowledge; it’s establishing a foundation for future cattle farmers’ success,” he says.
All episodes are available in isiZulu, isiXhosa and English on the Karan Beef website, www.karanbeef.com. Through the series, farmers will gain comprehensive knowledge on a diverse range of topics.
The first episode gives an overview of the South African beef market and covers the dynamics of the cattle farming sector, the potential it holds, and the vital role of optimal nutrition, including the intricate workings of the rumen and microbes.
Episode 2 deals with effective grazing management, ensuring cattle have access to the best possible food sources to prevent disease and optimise health.
Episode 3 focuses on energy and protein supplementation, illuminating the significance of proper weaning and the strategic use of supplements for optimal cattle growth and health.
In Episode 4, viewers learn the art of fertility management, understanding key factors that impact reproductive success and how to safeguard against deficiencies in natural grazing.
Episodes 6 and 7 shift the spotlight to common cattle illnesses, exploring their identification and treatment, and underscoring the importance of vaccinations as a preventive measure.
In Episode 8, the series highlights the critical role of an effective parasite control programme in maintaining a healthy herd.
