A Simbra bull, Jacmar Buffel JM 18-22, was sold for a South African record price of R550 000 at the Simbra Spring Showcase auction at the Afridome in Parys.
The auction was part of the annual BKB-ALE show.
The bull was sold by Jacmar Simbras, owned by Jaco and Henriëtte Maré of Hartbeesfontein, to Francois Wehmeyer and Sons, Lermar Farming, Grahamstown.
Jaco says Buffel was the senior and grand champion bull in 2021 and the reserve supreme champion at the BKB-ALE show, senior and grand champion at the Lichtenburg show, and the grand champion Simbra bull in Asia and Africa.
According to Vleissentraal, which conducted the auction with Ian Grobbelaar as the auctioneer, the 14 bulls at the auction averaged R135 713.
A pregnant heifer was sold for R24 000, a pregnant cow with a calf for R35 000, and 20 straws of semen for an average of R3 100.
