A ram from the Horizon Dorper Stud in Polokwane, Limpopo, fetched the highest price of R50 000 at a national Dorper auction held at the Fire and Wine Arena in Pretoria.
The type 5 Dorper ram was purchased by Johan Oosthuizen from the Oostermoed Stud in Hekpoort. The Horizon Stud belongs to a group of businessmen.
The most expensive ewe was a pregnant white Dorper that fetched R14 000 and was sold by Hardus Korb from the Hardus Korb Stud in Griekwastad to Francois Fourie of Potchefstroom.
Dorper stud rams averaged R20 400 (type 5) and R11 875 (type 4), while Dorper breeding rams (type 3) were sold for an average of R11 714.
Pregnant Dorper stud ewes (type 5) fetched an average of R11 000 and pregnant stud ewes (type 4) averaged R9 000.
White Dorper stud rams (T5) were sold for an average of R20 000, while stud rams (T4) and breeding rams (T3) averaged R8 000.
The price for white Dorper stud ewes with lambs averaged R12 000.
In total, 105 Dorpers fetched R890 500. More national auctions will be held in Beaufort West and Upington.
