Resolution Circle has partnered with the University of Johannesburg (UJ) to launch a revamped technical training centre in Welkom. The centre will provide training in the agriculture, agro-processing, renewable energy, gas and water, manufacturing, mining and transport sectors.
According to Resolution Circle, a technical training provider, the initiative is a significant milestone in improving technical education and building industry partnerships.
Gideon Potgieter, CEO at Resolution Circle, said it is committed to developing a mindset, skillset and knowledge base that is essential for success in the fourth industrial revolution.
The training centre was initially established by Anglo American under the leadership of Snyman Naude as its designer and first manager in 1981. The building is now owned by Harmony Gold and has been a cornerstone of technical education in the region.
After the departure of Adcorp Technical Training, the centre’s future was uncertain but Harmony Gold has extended the lease and Resolution Circle has taken over management of the centre, embarking on a journey to revitalise and modernise it.
Resolution Circle has a strong affiliation with UJ, which brings credibility and expertise to its operations. “This partnership highlights our commitment to collaboration and excellence in technical training. We are excited to introduce our brand to the community of Welkom and reinforce our pledge to enhance industry relationships,” said Potgieter.
“Our mission is to create a centre of excellence in technical training, with the University of Johannesburg as our valued partner.”
Potgieter said the renovated training centre will offer turnkey skills development solutions tailored to the evolving needs of institutions and industries. In addition to its traditional focus on apprenticeships, the centre offers candidacies, short learning programmes and work-integrated learning for TVET college and university of technology engineering diploma students.
“Our focus sectors include education, energy, gas and water, manufacturing, mining and transport,” said Potgieter. “But for the Welkom site specifically, we will expand into agriculture, agro-processing and renewable energy, reflecting the region’s unique needs and opportunities.”
