The three-year-old Droughtmaster bull 21-0003 CSA, bred by Considerata SA, was sold to Soetvelde Droughtmasters this week for a South African breed record price of R1,6 million.
The buyers of the record R1,6 million Droughtmaster bull 21-0003 CSA, say they plan to mate him with the offspring of the R1,4 million Droughtmaster bull they bought last year. VOVA Genetics sold the latter bull.
With this purchase, Soetvelde Droughtmasters have set two consecutive South African price records for Droughtmaster bulls.
Roan van Tonder of Soetvelde Droughtmasters in the JB Marks Local Municipality in North West, spoke to African Farming from the Parys Afridome, where another Droughtmaster stud from the district, Considerata SA, held its seventh production auction.
“This bull we just bought is a perfectly balanced bull that can exactly match the Australian Droughtmaster genetics of the bull we bought last year and his daughters,” said Van Tonder.
“This bull is the closest to a perfect bull in terms of how he looks, his masculinity, how early he has matured and his temperament. We think he is the definition of what a Droughtmaster should look like.
“We couldn’t find fault with him. You don’t find bulls like him very often. He ticks all the boxes for us.”
In the auction catalogue, Johan Dannhauser of Considerata SA described 21-0003 CSA as follows: “One of the best bulls we have ever bred. We used him on cows and heifers. He is an asset to any herd.”
