Entries are now open for the Western Cape Prestige Agri Awards.
The Western Cape agricultural worker of the year and other winners of these awards, presented by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, will be announced at a gala event in November.
Shoprite is once again one of the awards’ partners and is supplying gift vouchers worth R400 000 for winners.
According to a statement by the department, the awards are its largest social upliftment project. They were introduced in 2002, with 36 participants from the Hex River Valley region, and were previously known as the Farm Workers of the Year competition.
To date, more than 15 000 agricultural workers across the Western Cape have entered the awards, showcasing their knowledge and skills.
“Agricultural workers remain a priority for the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, and their unwavering support amid the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic was crucial to ensuring the continued growth of the agricultural sector. Therefore, they have been deemed essential workers,” the department said in a statement.
“The awards serve as an opportunity to honour and acknowledge the sustained dedication and resilience of these essential workers.”
