The Tuli Cattle Breeders’ Society of South Africa held its second national auction of pregnant and open heifers on May 2 at the Lettie Fouché School in Bloemfontein.
The heifers offered were of high quality.
The highest price for a pregnant heifer was R38 000. Willem Pretorius of Orangeview Farming in Hopetown was the breeder and the buyer was Helena Malherbe of the Malu-Tuli Stud in Kimberley.
The highest price of R31 000 for an open heifer was paid for DKH22029, bred by Ben Raath of Donkerhoek Tulis in Britstown, Northern Cape. The buyer was Theodor Oosthuizen of Red Grass Valley Tulis in Dealesville, Free State.
Pregnant heifers sold for an average of R25 154 and open heifers for R20 667.
The breeders were generally satisfied with the prices achieved in these difficult times when livestock prices are under pressure.
The auction was conducted by Vleissentraal Northern Cape, in cooperation with the online auction platform SwiftVee and under the auspices of the Tuli Breeders’ Society. Allan Sinclair was the auctioneer.
