The most expensive bull, MDS21-53, fetched a whopping R550 000 at Duncan Serapelwane’s second production sale in Vryburg, North West, on June 25. The buyer was Walter Motati, who farms in Zeerust and Stella in North West.
Nkosana “Farmboy” Mtambo of Mtambo Boerdery in Vrede, Free State, found it inspiring to witness his mentor accomplishing a milestone that numerous black farmers aspire to in cattle breeding.
Mtambo, who bought a bull for R100 000, said: “Congratulations to Duncan on a job well executed. For all black farmers aspiring to reach commercial success, this is truly inspiring.”
Christopher Melamu from Lamu’s Bonsmaras, a friend of Duncan who was selling as a guest, praised Duncan for the successful auction. “We have made significant progress, and this is the ultimate goal we have always aspired to achieve as a black breeder,” he said.
“I am extremely proud of Duncan and I have a strong belief that this is just the beginning of a much more successful journey.”
The auction featured 20 bulls and 200 stud and commercial females, with the average price of the bulls being R135 750.
“A big thank-you to all the buyers who showed their support at our second production auction for Moalosi Bonsmara,” said Duncan. “Wishing you God’s blessings. I want to thank André Kock Auctions and auctioneer Johan van der Nest for their outstanding performance.
