As usual, feedlots from all over South Africa attended the auction to purchase the best-quality weaner calves.
A total of 3 602 calves were sold, with a record turnover of about R32,7 million. The average price was R34,52/kg, and the calves weighed an average of 263 kg.
Hansie Muller Sr. of Hansie Muller Feedlot in Viljoenskroon was the buyer who spent the most money. He bought 654 calves for a total of about R6,8 million.
The seller with the highest turnover was Buks van Wyk from Wolmaransstad.
A weaner calf competition was also held. Lourens de Jager of Braamlou Farming, Schweizer-Reneke, won first place, Philip van der Berg of Hartsrivier Farming, Ottosdal, was second, and Van Wyk was third.
The auctioneers were Steven Mathews and Afie Zervas.
