Many of the 78 registered buyers forked out for the quality Brahman and Simmentaler genetics on offer at the Netherwood Bull Ring in KwaZulu-Natal’s Nottingham Road district.
Auctioneer Andrew Miller of in2assets.com sold 20 Brahman bulls and 20 Simmentaler bulls. The top-priced bull was a 37-month-old Brahman, TUG Mr Darkie 501 (TUG21501), bred by Brett Watt-Pringle of Tugela Brahmans in KwaZulu-Natal’s Besters district. He sold for R160 000 (VAT excluded) to Tim Hempson of Southern Berg Brahmans in KwaZulu-Natal’s Underberg district.
Sale facilitators AAM Livestock Agents and Auctioneers said the bulls from Tugela Brahmans, Double Bar Brahmans of KwaZulu-Natal’s Wartburg district and Broadview Brahmans of Dundee district all sold for an average R67 800 (VAT excluded).
The top-priced Simmentaler bull was the 36-month-old Four-Feet Owen (MPB2122), bred by Ed Barry of Four Feet Simmentalers in KwaZulu-Natal’s Dalton district. He sold for R140 000 (VAT excluded) to commercial beef producers Stewart Robertson and his nephew, Campbell Robertson.
AAM said Simmentaler bulls sold by Four Feet Simmentalers and Oggendstond Simmentalers of KwaZulu-Natal’s Mooi River district achieved an average price of R71 150 (VAT excluded).
Eighty females, registered and commercial, also went under Miller’s hammer. Forty-one in-calf Brahman heifers each sold for an average R22 256 (VAT excluded) and 24 Brahman open heifers for an average R21 833 (VAT excluded) each.
Fifteen in-calf Simbra heifers each sold for an average of R18 033 (VAT excluded).
Tugela Brahmans and Double Bar Brahmans produced the sale’s top-priced heifers which sold for R28 000 (VAT excluded) each.
Sixty-four of the registered buyers were onsite and 14 online. SwiftVee handled the online bidding.
