The South African Weather Service issued updated maps for the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal areas where heavy rain was forecast on Monday and Tuesday, 21 and 22 October. It warned of severe thunderstorms in other parts of the country.
An orange level 6 warning was issued for disruptive rainfall and flooding in the two provinces’ coastal areas. It followed warnings from the weather service on 19 October about weather conditions expected until Tuesday.
A yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rain on Monday was issued for parts of the Eastern Cape and for severe thunderstorms in inland areas in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, part of Mpumalanga, the entire Free State, part of the Northern Cape, part of North West and small parts of Gauteng.
For Tuesday, an orange level 6 warning for disruptive rainfall and flooding applies to the Eastern Cape coastal areas. Yellow level 4 warnings for disruptive rain and severe thunderstorms have been issued for the Eastern Cape interior, and yellow level 2 warnings for severe thunderstorms have been issued for other parts of the country.
On Saturday, the weather service said 100-200mm of rain could occur in the Eastern Cape coastal areas and in the southern and central parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
