Four prices of R100 000 or more were achieved at a large small livestock auction in Stampriet, 300km southeast of Windhoek, unofficially known as the Namibian small livestock industry’s national auction.
A Meatmaster ram was sold for R115 000, while a Boer goat ram, a Boer goat ewe and a Dorper ram were sold for R100 000 each.
The breeder with bragging rights for the day was Pieter van Schalkwyk, owner of Samehaling Meatmasters at Aroab, who sold a Meatmaster ram for R115 000 to Piet van Zyl. Van Schalkwyk also sold a white Dorper ram for R60 000 to Andries Steenkamp.
Phillip Strauss sold a Dorper ram for R100 000 to Jan Bredenkamp, and Conradie Genetics sold a Boer goat ram for R100 000 to Dawid Louw.
The highest price for a Van Rooy ram was R26 000. The sellers were Kola and Anet Steyn of Hoogvertoon Van Rooys, Stampriet, and the buyer was Steward Tjikune.
The highest price for a Kalahari Red ram was R30 000, achieved by two rams from Conradie Genetics and Dirk Louw. The buyers were Andrew Roberts and Pieter Martins.
Most expensive ewe a Boer goat
The most expensive ewe, a Boer goat from Dawid Louw of Conradie Genetics, was sold for R100 000 to Joche Schoeman of Kameelhoek Boer Goats.
The most expensive Meatmaster ewe was bought for R65 000 by Johnny Hanekom of Saamstaan Meatmasters, Maltahöhe, from Kobus and Malinda Steyn.
The highest price for a Damara ewe was R25 000. The seller was Nichlas Mbingeneeko of Skuilhoek Damaras, and the buyer was the Sonop Damara stud farm of Hannes Rossouw.
The most expensive Dorper ewe was sold for R40 000 by Phillip Strauss to Lopang Ntombela.
The most expensive Kalahari Red ewe achieved R30 000. The seller was Conradie Genetics and the buyer was RHJ Herbst.
The most expensive white Dorper achieved R22 000 and was sold by Mari Strauss to Jerrie Kotze.
Good average ewe prices
A total of 75 goat ewes were sold for an average of R23 447, while 194 sheep ewes achieved an average of R9 521.

Boer goat: commercial R7 625, elite R43 000, flock R15 000, stud R22 273.
Savanna: flock R7 000, stud R12 000.

Meatmaster: commercial R8 133, ewes with lambs R13 639.
Persian: flock R2 500, stud R2 833.
Van Rooy: flock R3 500, stud R3 750.
White Dorper: flock R5 000, stud R5 000, T5 R6 841.
Rams show brilliantly
A total of 39 goat rams achieved an average of R28 000 and 198 sheep rams were sold for an average of R18 283. The average prices were:
Kalahari Red: flock R15 000, stud R30 000.
Boer goat: elite R53 667, flock R15 364, stud R26 692.
Savanna: flock R6 000.
Damara: flock R5 000, stud R10 000.
Dorper: flock R8 167, stud R12 125, T5 R32 333.
Meatmaster: commercial R21 848.
Persian: flock R11 333, stud R10 000.
Van Rooy: flock R11 300, stud R11 833.
White Dorper: flock R13 750, stud R13 955, T5 R17 100.
