The multinational food company Nestlé has committed itself and its milk suppliers to sustainability through “interventions” or changes in different areas since 2020. Jean Higgs, Nestlé’s technical and agricultural services manager for the eastern and southern Africa region, said at the African Agri Investment Indaba that the interventions include renewable energy, reducing carbon dioxide emissions through cattle manure management, better feed and concentrate use to reduce methane emissions from dairy cows, pastures that cover the soil and can be used better, improved water management and sequestration of carbon in the soil.
