Question: I developed a recipe for finishing lambs in a feedlot system. I used Zilmol (reg.no. V16987, Act 36 of 1947), which is new to me. Will my recipe be safe to use? Do you have a suggestion for a recipe I can use?
Answer: I suggest finishing lambs on a cafeteria system using Voermol Zilmol.
Concentrate mixture:
- 200 kg Voermol SS200
- 50 kg Voermol Procon 33
- 80 kg Voermol Zilmol
- 20 kg soya oilcake
- 650 kg maize meal
Feed ad lib at about 1-1.3 kg per lamb per day.
Along with this, provide barley sprouts at 2% of body weight (approximately 700 g per lamb per day) and lucerne hay ad lib (approximately 300-500 g per lamb per day).
Please note that Voermol Zilmol should only be fed in the last 18-21 days before slaughter. There is a withdrawal period of 3-5 days before slaughter. During this period, replace the Voermol Zilmol with Voermol Molasses Meal (V1995).
