OVK held an excellent production auction on 7 February on behalf of JP Potgieter’s Welpic Dormer stud farm, which is located on his farm, Oudewoning, in the Lady Grey district.
The occasion was special since it was, for the first time, held in the new auction complex he built on his farm.
High-quality animals were offered, allowing buyers to bid on exceptional breeding material.
The auctioneer, Danie Strauss, described it as an incredible auction, emphasising the quality of the animals and the buyers’ enthusiasm.
The most expensive ram went for R32 000 to Cruzline Projects in Calitzdorp. The average price for the rams was R9 143.94, whereas the average for ewes was R2 365.61. Pregnant ewes sold for an average of R5 673.08, and ewes with lambs fetched R6 625.
JP has supplied this breeding material for 12 years, significantly benefiting stud farms across the country.
“The animals offered at the production auction are carefully selected to ensure that top-quality breeding materials are available. There are options for both stud breeders and commercial farmers. Our vision and mission are to make a significant difference in the breed and to continuously enhance it. We prioritise our buyers’ satisfaction with the animals we breed, and we want our passion for the breed to be evident in our work,” he said.
