BKB hosted a very successful auction on behalf of a group of stud breeders at Barkly East Golf Club on 22 January.
The studs that offered Merinos were Benvale Merinos (Cobus Botha), Barkly-East; Lamont Merino (Jambert and James Reeders), Rhodes; Morriston Merino (Pat Vorster), Barkly-East; Naudé’s Nek Merinos (Stephanus, Donie and Peet Naudé), Rhodes; Schlebusch Merinos (Jannie Schlebush), Lady Grey; Wye Draai Merinos (Marx van Rooyen), Barkly-East and Tentkop Merinos (Francois Nel), Rhodes. Brett Giddy from Rhodes was the guest vendor. Good breeding material at reasonable prices was available.
Cronjé van der Merwe and Francois Nel of Rhodes paid R21 000 for a Merino ram from Lamont Merinos. Other top prices were paid by Lloyd Cloete Farming of Indwe for a ram from Naudé’s Nek (R20 000), VKP Boerdery of Barkly-Oos for a ram from Lamont (R17 000) and VH Cronjé and CF Swart, both of Barkly-Oos, who each paid R16 000 for two rams from Naudé’s Nek and Lamont.
The rams were sold for an average of R8 313.73, and ewes at an average price of R1 562.20.
