African Farming editor, Lebogang Mashala, attended a recent stakeholder engagement and workshop focused on the commercialisation of the goat industry, organised by the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) and Ekim Wildlife at the ARC head office in Hatfield, Pretoria. He chatted with Mike Gcabo.
Mike is a game farmer from North West and the owner of Ekim Wildlife, is leading an initiative to commercialise goat farming in collaboration with the Agricultural Research Council (ARC). He believes that developing the goat industry will help the country assign an economic value to goats, especially benefiting smallholder farmers in rural areas. This initiative aims to empower these farmers to engage in the mainstream economy and tackle food insecurity.
