Buyers competed actively for the 184 168 kg of mohair offered at the second sale of the 2025 summer selling season at the Wool and Mohair Exchange in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The auction featured high-quality mohair, with individual clips achieving excellent results. Increased demand pushed the market up by 5% from the previous sale, closing at R377,39/kg.
The highest price of the day was R708,00/kg, paid for a 23-micron kid mohair bale. Price increases were recorded across all categories:
- Kids: up 3%
- Young goats: up 6%
- Fine adults: up 5%
- Strong adults: up 6%
“The second mohair sale of the 2025 summer selling season gave us something to smile about,” says Pierre van der Vyver, GM of the House of Fibre. “Following the 5% increase on the first sale, a positive second sale saw the overall indicator increase by 6%, considering that there is still an 8% shortfall compared to the same sale in 2024.”
The top price of the day for House of Fibre, R710.00/kg (a negotiated price after the sale), went to Andries Botha of Kareekrans Boerdery in Somerset East. This B-length, good-style summer kid bale tested 22 microns, with an impressive clean yield of 91,2%.
The next sale is scheduled for 25 March 2025, with another large offering expected.
