Fuel consumers can look forward to significant decreases in diesel and petrol prices at midnight, and this is no April Fool’s joke! Although the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy still needs to confirm the figures later today, everything points to a decrease of between 64 c/l and 78 c/l for petrol and, 90 c/l and 93 c/l for diesel.
These figures reflect the final fuel price recoveries for April, following the conclusion of the review month last Thursday. The recoveries are as follows: 95-octane petrol: 78 c/l; 93-octane petrol: 64 c/l; diesel with 0.05% sulphur: 90 c/l; diesel with 0.005% sulphur: 93 c/l; paraffin (wholesale): 84 c/l.
The good news follows notably smaller price differences at the beginning of March, but changes in taxation and a carbon levy that is expected to rise slightly could influence the final decreases.
Recoveries are the combined impact of changes in international fuel prices and the rand-dollar exchange rate.
