The numerous commercial and smaller-scale livestock farmers in KwaZulu-Natal’s foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) management area are desperate to earn an income from their now strictly controlled animals.
Fortunately plans are being developed to allow farmer who are willing and able to comply with the regulations that will be required to market and trade their livestock that are considered to be at low risk of contracting and/or spreading FMD.
Dewald Olivier, CEO of Red Meat Industry Services (RMIS), and Peter-John Hassard, president of the KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Union (Kwanalu), are two of the key role-players in the development of these plans.
In this video they give an overview of what it is all about.
