A Meatmaster ram fetched R45 000 at the production auction of Pieter van Schalkwyk of Aroab in Namibia, held on 19 March on the farm Samehaling.
The buyer was I.B. Burger of Maltahöhe. Twelve Meatmaster rams fetched an average price of R14 167.
Two type-5 white Dorper rams were sold for R30 000 each to N. Dreyer of Aranos and G.S. Fourie of Ariamsvlei, while a type-5 Dorper ram was sold for the same amount to P. de Wit of Gobabis.
Van Schalkwyk sold 104 small stock units for an average of R11 159. This consisted of 74 rams for an average of R14 108 and 30 ewes for an average of R3 883. Only one sheep, a Meatmaster ram, was not sold.
Type-5 white Dorper rams achieved the highest average price of R21 00. The lowest price was R12 000. Type-5 Dormer rams also did well with an average price of R17 333 and a lowest price of R9 000.
Other good average prices for rams were: Dorper flock rams R9 111, Dorper stud rams R12 000, white Dorper flock rams R11 250 and white Dorper stud rams R11 667.
A type-5 Dorper fetched the highest price of R6 500 for a ewe. Dorper stud ewes sold for an average of R3 500, type-5 Dorper ewes for R3 923, white Dorper flock ewes for R5 000, white Dorper stud ewes for R3 500 and type-5 white Dorper ewes for R3 800.
According to Van Schalkwyk there was a very good turnout of small stock farmers at the auction.
