The Department of Agriculture condemns consumption of meat from dead animals following cattle deaths at Hope Fountain near Makhanda.
Eastern Cape Agriculture MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe said her department strongly condemns, in the harshest possible terms, consumption of meat from animals that have died from unknown causes, following the recent death of over 85 cattle in a farm near Hope Fountain outside Makhanda.
Kontsiwe said it has been reported that some community members are consuming the meat.

“Residents are urged to refrain from eating or distributing meat from these animals. Such animals should never be consumed by humans under any circumstances. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the cattle death. The veterinary teams are deployed to assess the situation.”
