The sixth production auction of Zippo Lamprecht, the Free State’s own barefoot Boran breeder, yielded good average prices and achieved a turnover of R1,558 million.
Lamprecht has been building the award-winning Bloodline Boran herd for almost half of his life, and has become famous for almost always walking barefoot. His farm, Mijnhartsrus, is southeast of Dewetsdorp in the Free State.
He breeds some of the best cattle in South Africa and his stud has already been named Herd of the Year. Zippo now farms in harmony with nature and it bears fruit every year.

His father, Adriaan, gave him his first cow at the age of five and Zippo bought his first Boran at 14.
The most expensive animal was a pregnant cow (ZIP 20-194 Titanic), which was sold for R130 000 to three breeders from Mpumalanga. They are Japie du Toit of Oostenwal Borane at Laersdrift, the Janvos Estate of Davel with herdmaster Hendy-Hein Matthews, and Marthinus Botha of Bothasberg at Stoffberg.
The most expensive cow and calf, FPL 17-99 Liefling, was sold for R70 000 to D. Gonsalves of AuRex Borane at Thabazimbi. Pregnant SP cows fetched an average of R42 182, SP cows with a calf an average of R46 714 and pregnant heifers an average of R31 000.
Vleissentraal Bloemfontein hosted the auction on 8 March at the farm Welkom near Dewetsdorp. Johan van der Nest was the auctioneer.
