The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall across most parts of the country on Wednesday (23 April 2025).
Scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers are expected in the central and eastern regions, with rainfall exceeding 50mm in the eastern parts.
Snowfalls are likely over the Drakensberg mountains in Lesotho, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
Disaster management teams are on high alert and ready to assist affected communities where necessary.
Safety guidelines:
- Citizens must not cross flooded roads, bridges or low-lying areas on foot or in vehicles.
- Stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms and heavy rain.
- Check weather updates regularly from the SAWS, TV and radio stations and local authorities.
- If living in flood-prone areas, move valuables and livestock to higher ground and secure outdoor items.
