South Africa’s largest slaughter and store lamb auction on 16 April in Trompsburg achieved very good prices. The auction, conducted by Vleissentraal and managed online by Meerkat, had a turnover of R34.2 million.
Over 19 000 sheep were offered for sale at the auction, which took place at Trompsburg Primary School as part of the Trompsburg agricultural show.
“Excellent livestock was offered, and excellent prices were achieved. Congratulations to all the farmers on a great day. You deserve these prices. The livestock industry is booming,” said Mario Kruger, executive director of Vleissentraal Port Elizabeth.
There were 27 buyers on the floor and 34 buyers participated online.
The auctioneer was André van Zyl.
