Sheep shearers and wool handlers from across South Africa and Lesotho gathered in Bloemfontein this weekend to take part in the South African National Sheep Shearing Championship at the Bloem Show 2025.
Sheep shearer Dumisani Xhasa from DG Snyman Skeerdiens in Philippolis came second in the South African National Sheep Shearing Open Championship and this achievement secured him one of the two places in the National Shearing Team that will be heading to New Zealand in March 2026 to take part in the World Championship.
South Africa’s shearers are respected across the international shearing world, especially blade shearers, who have been reigning champions for the last 30 years.
In the video, Dumisani and fellow shearer, Michael Smith, share their advice for youngsters who would like to become shearers.
