A redhead Persian ram fetched the highest price of R15 000 at the national auction of the Persian Sheep Breeders’ Society on 4 April in Beaufort West. In addition to the 16 Persian rams and 59 ewes that were sold, 21 Boer goats and 20 Meatmaster ewes were also offered by guest sellers.
The seller of the redhead Persian ram is Dirk Lötter of Willowmore and the buyers are Fouché Blignaut and Francois Bouwer of the Shongololo Boerbok Stud at Groblersdal. A red speckled Persian ram from Lötter fetched the second highest price of R13 000. The buyer is Jodene Schutte of the Humansrus Trust at Postmasburg. A blackhead Persian ram from Melanie Agenbach of Lutzville was sold for R11 000 to Johan van Druten of Victoria West. The average price of the 16 rams was R6 203. A blackhead Persian ewe from Agenbach was sold for R5 000 to CP du Toit of Ceres, while another blackhead ewe from Lötter was sold for R5 000 to Blignaut. The average price of the 59 ewes was R3 874.
Three Boerbok rams were sold for an average of R11 166 and 18 Boerbok ewes for an average of R3 874. Twenty Meatmaster ewes achieved an average price of R2 305.
