Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing provides a different flavour in the last episode of Nyama Battle, showcasing the versatility of apples and pears.
Tru-Cape, one of the cooking programme’s sponsors, challenges chefs and home cooks to think differently about how apples and pears can be used in the kitchen. Although these fruits are usually considered snacks or dessert ingredients, they can just as easily be used in savoury dishes.
“Tru-Cape is excited to be part of an event that celebrates innovation, culture, and flavours,” says Roelf Pienaar, managing director of Tru-Cape. “Our apples and pears are grown by South African farmers. We are excited to see how they are transformed into chutneys, sauces, and grilled combinations.”
Tru-Cape’s fresh products will be featured in the last episode of Nyama Battle for creative dishes such as apple sosaties (skewers), apple chutney and tzanini, a playful version of tzatziki made with apples. This follows the trend of balancing heavy meat dishes with the natural sweet and sour flavours of fruits.
Conrad Fick, marketing manager of Tru-Cape, says the partnership with Nyama Battle not only showcases their products but also conveys a broader narrative about South Africa’s heritage and the contribution of local ingredients to our cuisine.
“South African cuisine is dynamic and diverse, just like our products. Whether braaiing, roasting, or stewing, apples and pears provide depth, freshness, and a local twist to a plate of food.”
