In the fields of South Africa where droughts test resilience one man walks ahead, not only as a supplier of seeds, but as a cultivator of belief. Caiphas Muyambo, Managing Director of Seedlink and Farmer Development Manager at Pannar Seed, is planting more than crops, he’s planting possibility.
His impact is felt in rural communities, under shade trees where knowledge is exchanged and in field days where insights turn into action.
Recently, alongside Pannar agronomist Kelly Rowland, Caiphas facilitated a hands-on session with farmers, showcasing the link between smart planning and strong yields.
“Success in agriculture isn’t luck. It’s knowledge, timing and the right plan,” Caiphas said.

From seed to strategy: Empowering farmers
At Seedlink, Caiphas opens doors for emerging farmers providing access to top-quality vegetable seeds like spinach, tomatoes, cabbage and peppers. With an easy online ordering system and delivery across Gauteng, the Free State, Mpumalanga and North West, smallholder farmers are finally seen, supported and set up to succeed.
At Pannar Seed, he serves commercial farmers with expert guidance on maize, soybean, sunflower, sorghum and wheat production. It’s not just about what to plant, but how to plant it and that’s where his mentorship shines.

Field day wisdom: Lessons with Kelly Rowlands
In the recent Crop Extravaganza field day, Kelly Rowlands introduced farmers to high-performance hybrids like 955, known for strong emergence and potential for dual ears per plant, particularly effective at lower populations in regions like the Free State.
But seed performance isn’t a guess. Kelly Rowlands emphasised: “We benchmark against Pioneer, Dekalb and others. We test across the country, so farmers can trust the data.”
Population planning was a hot topic. Kelly Rowlands advised: “For medium-potential soil, stick to 28 000 to 32 000 plants per hectare. Adapt population density to match rainfall, soil strength, and hybrid choice. Experiment with population blocks to find your sweet spot.”
Crop planning was equally key: “If your yield target is 7 tonnes per hectare, your fertiliser and spray programme should reflect that – not random averages.”

Basic fertiliser guide (pure element weight):
20 kg nitrogen
3-4 kg phosphorus
4 kg potassium per tonne of maize
Seed technology that protects
Kelly also expanded on PW hybrids seeds with built-in tolerance for glyphosate and resistance to pests. These reduce risk, especially in challenging environments, while preserving yield potential. “Think of it like choosing a car – same engine, different features. You decide how much protection your farm needs.”
Caiphas – the quiet force behind the movement
From arranging field days and crop demos to mentoring on soil health and hybrid selection, Caiphas is the driving force behind thousands of successful seasons. He doesn’t just distribute seed; he builds confidence, restores dignity and helps farmers rise with purpose. He believes in farmers before the seed even hits the soil.
In a noisy world, Caiphas Muyambo is a quiet revolution growing change, one farmer, one field, one season at a time.
