Since importing original specimens of Guzerá/Guzerat/Guzera cattle from India in the 1800s, Brazil has diligently developed and improved on the genetics and production efficiencies of this breed. The modern Guzerá as it is known in Brazil, is now a truly dual-purpose breed capable of profitably producing both top-quality milk and top-quality beef.
African Farming recently attended the ExpoZebu 2025 cattle exhibition in Brazil’s Uberaba district. There our journalist, Lloyd Phillips, met up with Eros Gazzinelli of that country’s GenBra company that specialises in sourcing, improving, marketing and distributing Brazil’s leading Guzerá genetics worldwide, including back to India.
Watch African Farming’s video interview with Eros to learn more about this breed that he describes as “noble and highly adaptable”.
