For many South African farmers, the annual Nampo Agricultural Trade Show represents a vital opportunity to discover new technologies, network with peers and gain fresh perspectives on agricultural practices. This year’s event was particularly significant for Mahlatse Bonoko, a dedicated farmer from Ga-Mashashane in the Capricorn district of Limpopo, who attended the prestigious farming exhibition for the first time.
Bonoko, who manages a diversified farming operation growing yellow maize alongside raising cattle, goats and sheep, described his inaugural Nampo experience as eye-opening and inspirational.
“I’m very excited to be here at Nampo for the first time,” Bonoko shared enthusiastically. “It’s been an amazing experience because I’ve been able to see different types of equipment that can help us farmers improve our operations.”
The Nampo Agricultural Trade Show, widely regarded as the premier agricultural event in South Africa, showcases cutting-edge farming equipment and innovative agricultural practices, and provides a platform for knowledge exchange among industry professionals.
For farmers like Bonoko who are constantly seeking ways to enhance their productivity and sustainability, Nampo offers a treasure of ideas and solutions. “I’ve been able to see different kinds of equipment that I didn’t know existed before coming here,” he explained. “This exposure has broadened my understanding of what’s possible in modern farming.”
Reflecting on his experience, Bonoko was emphatic about the value Nampo offers to the farming community. He strongly encourages other farmers, especially those who have never attended, to make the journey to future events.
“I would like to advise other farmers, if you’ve never been to Nampo, please make a plan to come and see what’s happening here,” he urged. “The knowledge you can gain and the equipment you can purchase – often at special discounted prices – make it well worth the trip.”
Beyond the educational aspects, Bonoko highlighted the practical economic benefits of attending Nampo. “There are so many things you can buy here at a discount,” he noted, pointing to the often-overlooked financial advantage of making equipment purchases during the trade show.
For many smallholder and emerging farmers who operate on tight margins, these discounts can make a significant difference in their ability to invest in new technologies and equipment.
“After seeing everything at Nampo, I feel more confident and excited about implementing new ideas on my farm,” he concluded. “This experience has definitely changed my perspective on what’s possible.”
