The inaugural Hurwitz & Friends Auction was not only a tremendous success, providing buyers with exceptional value, but it also raised close to R 285 000 for charity. This amount was collected through the sale of three lots at the beginning of the auction, with all proceeds donated to the Rogers & Tebogo Sithole Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to transforming lives through education.
The three lots consisted of:
- Lot 1A: An official Manchester United jersey signed by the whole team, which sold for R70,000.
- Lot 1B: A weekend getaway to the Kingdom of Eswatini’s big game parks, which fetched R60,000.
- Lot 50: A bull, BS 170014, a genotyped proven herd sire, which was sold for R60 000.

Apart from the charity lots, there was a donation from the 22 sellers who collectively raised an additional R45 000. Another donation came from Paul de Wet and the De Wet Family of Green Valley Boran, who generously contributed R50 000 to the Foundation, bringing the total amount raised to R285 000.
“We would like to thank Simeon and Jarren Hurwitz (Hurwitz Farming) for making it possible for our Foundation to be present at this inaugural auction and allowing for funds to be raised for this good cause. We also thank Johan van der Nest (auctioneer) and Simon Hughes (SHM) for making it possible for such funds to be raised for the Foundation,” said Sithole.

Founded in 2022 by Mr Rogers and Tebogo Sithole, the Rogers and Tebogo Sithole Foundation is deeply committed to youth development. The Foundation aims to democratise education across the African continent, ensuring that no child, regardless of their financial situation or geographic location, is left behind.
The Foundation identifies outstanding learners from underprivileged backgrounds in Grades 8-12 and creates supportive programs for their studies while mentoring them as they navigate life. For younger learners in Grades 0-7, the Foundation enhances its impact by adopting underprivileged schools, providing support through donations of stationery, school uniforms and transportation.
Sithole expressed gratitude for the generosity shown by the breeders, stating, “The hearts of the people were in the right place, and we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts.”
This successful sale event was designed as a platform for breeders and farmers who have supported Hurwitz Borans over the years. A total of 22 sellers showcased their animals and the day concluded on a high note.
