Brazil’s ExpoZebu cattle exhibition celebrated its 90th anniversary this year. Thousands of cattle of Brazil’s ten pure or composite Zebu breeds were showcased and competed. Hundreds of breeders, hundreds of other exhibitors, and many thousands of spectators and other interested people from Brazil and other parts of the world were all there.
Among them were Werner Trieloff, a former Free Stater who has been living in Brazil since 2008. With his involvement in Brazil’s pasture seed sector, Werner has attended many annual ExpoZebu exhibitions over the years. So, in addition to now being able to speak fluent Brazilian Portuguese and understanding local customs, he also as in-depth knowledge and experience of ExpoZebu and of Brazil’s huge cattle industry in general.
Trieloff was a great guide and help for African Farming’s Lloyd Phillip when he recently attended ExpoZebu 2025 as a sponsored guest of the hosts, namely the Brazilian government’s Image Project and the Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association.
At ExpoZebu 2025, African Farming was able to pin down an exceptionally busy Trieloff to learn what ExpoZebu is all about and, perhaps more interestingly, why stakeholders in South Africa’s beef and dairy value chains would benefit from personally attending one or more ExpoZebu exhibitions in coming years.
