Kubota, Deutz-Fahr, Polaris and Linhai were among the brands that could be viewed at Smith Power Equipment’s stand at this year’s Nampo.
At the 2025 Nampo Harvest Day, Kubota’s tractors, TLBs (tractor-loader-backhoes), and trenchers stood shoulder to shoulder with the machinery and equipment of Deutz-Fahr under the banner of Smith Power Equipment. At this stand, visitors also saw off-road vehicles from Polaris and Linhai, as well as golf carts from two new brands, Tara and Evolution.
Powerful tractors
Deutz-Fahr’s new high-horsepower tractor series, which delivers between 186kW and 250kW, was introduced at the 2025 Nampo Harvest Day. This range was designed to meet the diverse needs of South African farmers, especially those managing medium- to large-scale farming operations.
Thanks to advanced technology, these machines offered fuel-efficient engines capable of handling high workloads while maintaining operational efficiency.
A highlight of the range was the inclusion of precision farming technology, enabling farmers to optimize productivity by using real-time data to manage inputs more effectively.
These powerful tractors were ideal for tasks such as heavy ploughing, land preparation and transporting loads across various terrains.
A core aspect of the Deutz-Fahr range was its balance between power and efficiency. In addition, the ergonomic and comfortable cab design helped reduce operator fatigue during long working hours.
New off-road vehicles
For many farmers, quad bikes and utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) are the ideal solution for performing specific tasks on the farm. They are useful for reaching fencing lines or remote dams to monitor maintenance. These vehicles easily traverse rough terrain and can access areas where pickup trucks would struggle.
Smith Power Equipment showcased the Linhai T-Boss 650 UTV and the ProMax 650 quad bike at its stand. Also on display was the Linhai 800 UTV, built for demanding agricultural applications. It is powered by the reliable 778cc Kubota diesel engine, known for its durability and excellent fuel economy. This serves as a great example of how Smith Power Equipment’s products complement one another.
Kubota growing in popularity
Smith Power Equipment had been distributing Kubota tractors – the leading brand for small tractors – since 2000, when it acquired exclusive distribution rights from the Kubota Corporation in Japan. Kubota also manufactures TLBs, compact trenchers, diesel engines and utility vehicles.
Kubota tractors had gained a solid foothold in the South African agricultural sector, and Smith Power Equipment also distributed Kubota equipment to the rest of Southern Africa.
The Japanese manufacturer had become increasingly popular for its reliable, innovative tractors that met a wide range of farming needs, from small-scale operations to larger commercial enterprises.
Farmers were particularly impressed with Kubota’s E-series tractors, designed specifically for entry-level and smaller-scale farmers. Its TLBs had also become more popular, and at Nampo, farmers had the opportunity to speak with Kubota’s expert team about how these machines could make life easier on the farm.
With an extensive network of more than 100 dealers nationwide providing sales and technical support, Kubota remained competitive against other major brands. Kubota had certainly earned its place in the South African agricultural machinery market.
