The African Farmers’ Association of South Africa (AFASA) Free State province has announced plans to organise a peaceful march and picketing in support of one of its members who is facing challenges with advantaged commercial farmers on a state-owned farm.
According to AFASA, the dispute centres around land use and access issues on a state-owned farm. The organisation claims that advantaged commercial farmers are allegedly bullying an AFASA member. The matter has escalated to legal proceedings, with a court hearing for an interdict scheduled for 18 June 2025 at the Hoopstad Magistrate Court.
AFASA says their peaceful march will start at 7am at the corner of Prince George van Zyl and Walter Sisulu Street (Circle Meeting Point).
In their statement, AFASA emphasised their belief in the principles of the Freedom Charter, advocating for “the land to be shared among those who work it”. This stance, they said, aligns with broader land reform discussions that have been ongoing in South Africa.
