The Boran Cattle Breeders’ Society will be hosting a free information day in Bloemfontein on 20 June this year to shed light on the latest research on field finishing and to give practical tips on how it works. If you are unable to attend the day yourself, you can follow it online on Meerkat Online Auctions’ platform.
The theme of the day is “The Winds of Change” and anyone in the meat industry’s value chain will benefit from attending this information day, not just farmers, says Christo Doman, organiser of the day. “We want to help farmers explore options for marketing their cattle, such as producing grass-fed beef, where you finish off your animals on the field yourself.” Speakers include Hennie Gerber of the South African Meat Industry Company (Samic), Prof. Phillip Strydom, professor of meat science at the agricultural faculty of Stellenbosch University, Gerrit van Zyl, columnist of Landbouweekblad and Bonsmara stud farmer of Dewetsdorp, Issie Liebenberg, beef consultant of Intelact, and Dr Lindie von Maltitz, agricultural economist at the University of the Free State. Pieter Möller is the master of ceremonies and motivational speaker of the day.
* The information day will be held on 20 June at Be Human near Bloemfontein. Attendance is free, but pre-booking is essential because places are limited. Call Doman by June 16 on 084 406 6110 or call Boran SA’s office on 066 286 6668 to confirm your attendance.
