Red Brahmans from top breeders in the industry were sold at excellent prices at the second Red Warm Brahman auction on 2 May. Dr. Paul Pienaar took the lead and brought together breeders of exceptional animals for the auction at the Fire and Wine Arena in Pretoria.
Lot 1, a cow (JHA2116) and her calf, from James Prinsloo of the Jamica Brahman stud (t.a. the James Prinsloo trust) fetched the highest price of the day. This cow and calf were sold for R220 000 to D. Khupukwe of Bonvu Brahman in Polokwane.
The most expensive bull at the auction was lot 8, WWH15973, which Wouter van Deventer of the Discovery stud at Rust de Winter sold for R160 000 to Stanley Nkomo of the Nkomo Farming Group in Nylstroom. The most expensive cow was lot 27, JHA2157, which was sold for R55 000 to the Geffert Pretorius Boerdery BK at Carolina. The seller was James Prinsloo. He also sold the most expensive heifer, JHA 225 (lot 2), for R110 000 to M. Pretorius of Mafunyane Wildlife Services in Brits.
The average prices for cows and calves were R67 500, for bulls it was R160 000, for cows R36 500 and for heifers R44 200.
The auction was held by Clive Gardner Auctioneers, with Hendrik Nel as auctioneer.
