Despite market challenges the third Moalosi Bonsmaras production auction was a remarkable success, offering buyers a variety of genetic options in bulls from Moalosi Bonsmaras and Christopher Melamu of Lamus Bonsmaras.
The highest-priced bull in the sale was Lot 4, ZEF 220275, from Lamus Bonsmaras, which was sold to Thabo Matlatsa of Heidelberg for R250 000. The second-highest priced bull, MDS 220030, from Moalosi Bonsmaras, was sold for R120 000.
The auction featured a total of 24 bulls and 120 commercial females at various stages of reproduction. In the commercial female category, many sellers were commercial breeders who have supported Moalosi Bonsmaras over the years.
Duncan Serapelwane, the owner and founder of Moalosi Bonsmaras, expressed his satisfaction with the auction results, despite the industry’s challenges, including the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported the auction, and I hope the animals they purchased will add value to their herds and help advance their farming endeavours,” said Duncan.
