The prices of all grades of petrol and diesel will increase from midnight tonight – diesel will be 82c and 84c per litre more expensive respectively.
The Department of Mineral Resources & Energy announced the latest price increases:
- Petrol (93 octane) by 55c per litre
- Petrol (95 octane) by 52c per litre
- Diesel (0.05% sulphur content) by 82c per litre
- Diesel (0.005% sulphur content) by 84c per litre
- Paraffin by 89c per litre
The department says the average Brent crude oil price rose from $63.95 to $69.36 from the end of May to 26 June. This is attributed to concerns about a possible disruption in supply due to increasing tensions between Israel and Iran. The average international prices of petroleum products have also increased during this period.
Thanks to the strengthening of the rand in June – from R18.11 to R17.84 against the dollar – the price increases are not higher, the department said in a media statement. If it were not for that, petrol and diesel would have increased by a further 15c per litre and 16c per litre respectively.
