A South African record of R62 000 for an open Drakensberger heifer was set at the national Drakensberger auction in the Afridome in Parys on 19 June.
Two heifers that were auctioned set the new record. The Neuman brothers, Rodney and Leonard, from Vrede sold the heifers to André and Juffie van Dyk from Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
A SA record for semen was also set when the semen of PU 19-0348 from Pikkie Uys from P.W.B. Uys Drakensbergers, Volksrust, fetched R2 000 per straw. The buyers were Jean van der Merwe and Willie Landman, owners of the Black Hills Drakensberger stud at Klerksdorp.

The most expensive bull was GR 21-0311 from Rouvus Drakensbergers of Gawie and Frik Roux, Ventersburg, who sold the bull for R250 000 to Jan-Louis and Bertus Wessels of Excelsior.
The highest price for a female animal was R75 000 for a pregnant cow, PU 21-0063, with her calf which fetched R75 000. The seller was Uys and the buyers were Xander Gunter and Simonne Joubert of Leandra.
Eleven bulls were sold for an average of R100 000, 24 heifers for an average of R29 729, two pregnant cows for an average of R23 750, four pregnant cows with calves for an average of R47 500, four pregnant heifers for an average of R26 750 and 100 straws of semen for an average of R1 375.
The auction was held by Vleissentraal Frankfort and the auctioneer was Ian Grobbelaar.
