The world champion Beefmaster bull, Loumotta WC 21-0005, was sold for a whopping R700 000 at the national Beefmaster auction in the Afridome in Parys on 3 July.
By Charl van Rooyen
The seller is Wilru Campher of Loumotta Beefmasters, Ventersdorp, and the buyer is Jannie Greyling of Mooibank Beefmasters of Wakkerstroom. The bull is from an embryo that Campher flushed from genetic material from Bos Blanco of Burnie Staal of Kroonstad.
The Loumotta bull was named the winner in the Beefmaster and Droughtmaster bull categories in the latest edition of the competition for the best beef and dual-purpose cattle of PJ Budler, a well-known international cattle judge and former South African who now lives in Texas. It was a hat-trick for Campher’s Loumotta stud, which produced its third world champion. Previously, he also produced world champions with a Charolais bull and cow.
