Bulls sold quickly, online and on the floor. There was something for everyone, from affordable bulls sold for R40 000 to R60 000, to good breeding bulls that fetched prices ranging from R10 000 to R200 000. Boschoek Bonsmaras’ stud bull AH22036 fetched the highest price when it was sold for R300 000 to a buyer on the floor, Derek Ralfe from Up George Bonsmaras of Elandslaagte. The average price for the 26 stud bulls sold at the auction was just over R107 692.
Pregnant stud cows with calves – 3-in-1 packages – sold at an average of R90 000 per lot. Arthur de Villiers Farm sold the most expensive 3-in-1 package for R100 000 to Somerset Nature Reserve at Bryanston.
Stud cows with calves averaged R64 444, pregnant stud cows averaged just over R63 333, and pregnant stud heifers sold at an average of R86 538. “We are very grateful for the good support and the good prices animals fetched at our auction,” said Jannie Senekal of Boschhoek Bonsmaras on Monday morning. “I talked to many of the buyers over the weekend and, without exception, they are happy with their purchases.”
Senekal says he was heartened that there was a bull or a female animal available for every buyer within their price range. “When you see all your buyers satisfied and you and your guest sellers feel you’ve gotten fair prices for your animals, then it was a nice auction, and then you know the buyers are going to come back next year.”
Senekal also expressed his gratitude to the guest sellers who brought their animals to a new auction.
The auction was hosted by Vleissentraal Bushveld. The auctioneer was Mike Killassy.
