The light of the Free State cattle industry shone brightly on 23 July at the Deale Bovelder production auction on the farm Madeira near Vrede, which was once again a great success.

By Salomé van den Berg

Deale Farming of Cronjé and Sherley Deale is an established and prominent name in the Free State agricultural community, especially in the Vrede district, where it plays a leading role in the breeding of Bovelder cattle.

Deale Farming’s Bovelder bloodlines are synonymous with excellence and trust in the cattle industry. Every animal that comes from this genetic line carries the characteristics of performance, stability and adaptability, proving time and time again that it is an excellent investment for any farmer who strives for quality and sustainability.

The Deale family’s commitment to quality, integrity and farming excellence was also evident in the quality of the animals on offer. With all the characteristics that make the Bovelder breed so sought after – adaptability, frame size, depth, fertility and meat efficiency – lot 8, DB211276, attracted attention as the most expensive bull of the day. He was rigorously selected and represents the cream of the Deale Farm bloodline.

Fick and Son Investments of the farm Welkom near Reitz did not hesitate to pay R450 000 for him – a clear sign of trust in the genetic value and breeding potential of the bull.

According to Wally Liebenberg, experienced farmer and member of the Reitz East Farmers Association and buyer of the bull, he ticks all their boxes – “a 10 out of 10.”

The average price of the 100 bulls was R104 350, that of the 30 cows with calves R24 666,67, whilst the 227 pregnant cows were sold for an average price of R23 484,84.

BKB auctioneer Jan Mostert shared his excitement about the success of the auction and the quality of the animals offered: “It was a wonderful day with good quality animals.”

The Deales expressed their sincere thanks after the successful auction: “We are incredibly grateful for the day and very pleased with how everything went. Thank you to all the buyers for their support, and to everyone who made this day a success.” The community – both locally and online – came together to celebrate the day.

Andries Greyling from Charfontein was a guest seller on the day.

The auction was hosted by BKB with SwiftVee handling the online buyers.
