In many rural corners of South Africa, impactful stories often unfold quietly, led by people whose determination speaks louder than words. Selinah Khutso Ntjana from Dendron, Limpopo, is one such person – a farmer and entrepreneur whose work bridges tradition, innovation and community upliftment.

At first glance, Selinah may be described simply as a goat farmer. But those familiar with her journey know she is much more. What began as a small-scale farming venture has grown into a multifaceted enterprise. Guided by her deep care for animals and a strong connection to the land, she developed a goat milk skincare line – Selinah the Goat – that blends wellness with tradition and local knowledge.
This product range is more than a business; it reflects a broader vision. By creating high-quality, natural skincare rooted in ancestral ingredients, Selinah is reconnecting people to the value of sustainable, locally sourced care.

Expanding Impact: From Spa to Storytelling
Recognising the importance of holistic wellness, Selinah has also launched a mobile spa – a calming space that blends modern self-care practices with indigenous ingredients and rituals. The spa offers a nurturing experience, inviting visitors to rest, recharge and reconnect with a uniquely local approach to wellness.
Her focus on upliftment extends beyond skincare. Passionate about education and literacy, Selinah has authored both a colouring book and a reading book for primary school learners. These titles aim to foster imagination and pride in identity among rural children.
Working alongside her is her 17-year-old daughter, Thapelo Lio-Ntjana, who has helped manage the Selinah the Goat brand for the past two years. Together, they are shaping a legacy rooted in entrepreneurship, collaboration and generational knowledge.

Growing Together: Collaboration and Mentorship
Selinah is also deeply committed to mentorship. Among those she supports is her cousin, Noria Mhlongo-Lepele, founder of the local food brand Sariri, known for its flavourful atchar and chilli sauces. With Selinah’s guidance, Noria is now preparing to grow her own chillies, a move that will reduce input costs and expand production.
This culture of mentorship and shared growth reflects a central value in Selinah’s work: that progress is most powerful when it is shared. This spirit was clearly evident at the recent Women and Youth in Agriculture Summit in Ga-Lekgothoane, Limpopo, where Selinah and other changemakers, including Dr Sebonkile Thaba, gathered to exchange ideas on transformation and innovation in agriculture.

Linking Rural Farmers to the Future
Dr Thaba, a mentor to student-led start-ups at the University of Johannesburg and an expert in blockchain for inclusive supply chains, is currently involved in an exciting collaboration between Selinah the Goat and Ascentric Intel Agency, a student-founded innovation hub. Together, they are developing a blockchain-powered app to help small-scale goat farmers participate more effectively in the supply chain.
The app will register and track farmers, connecting them directly to Selinah as a consistent buyer. It enables instant digital payments, builds transaction histories, and can unlock access to credit – helping rural farmers participate more fully and transparently in the agricultural economy.
As Dr Thaba explains, “This model doesn’t just connect supply and demand. It dignifies informal farmers, builds trust and drives financial inclusion through technology.”

A Grounded Vision with Far-Reaching Impact
Selinah the Goat is more than just a skincare label. It represents a broader vision for agriculture that values wellness, community and economic empowerment. It is a reminder that meaningful change can come from local roots, thoughtful leadership, and a willingness to uplift others along the way.
Selinah Ntjana’s story shows what’s possible when traditional knowledge, innovation and a deep commitment to community come together – one goat, one product and one shared dream at a time.
